May 15, 2019 · There are different methods of triangulation. In Blender, we have the clip and beauty methods. Beauty arranges the new triangles evenly, while clip splits the polygons with so called ear clipping algorithm, that generally performs a bit faster but produces a noticeably worse set of triangles.

It's possible to export two different characters/weapons/whatever at the exact same polygon count, but potentially have drastically different vertex count based on UV layout(s) and smoothing groups. Even with the same polygon count, they can have significantly different memory payloads as well as runtime performance characteristics. But we will need a paid tool - IDMapper add-on for Blender. It currently is available on BlenderMarket for $22.95 and it is the most sophisticated, yet very simple to use solution for creating ID map from almost each data that Blender can provide. IDMapper can automatically assign ID maps basing on face selection. This clip presents a general overview of the Blender sculpting workflow.
